A shooting in Menlo Park on Thursday night injured a 47-year-old man who had three children in his vehicle and had just gotten into a collision with the suspected shooter’s car, according to police.

Menlo Park police responded at 8:39 p.m. to reports of gunfire in the area of Bay and Hedge roads, located near Flood Park. Officers arrived and found the man with a gunshot wound and three children between the ages of 8 and 14 in his car. None of the children were hurt and the man was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive, police said.

Investigators learned that a non-injury collision had occurred and when the man exited his vehicle to exchange information, someone in the other vehicle shot him. The vehicle was only described as a “small white car” and police did not share any details about the suspected shooter.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Detective Marcial Barron-Villa at mbarron-villa@menlopark.gov or 650-847-7438.
